You won't find additional menu options when booking a meal em linha, but I eagerly selected a Japanese meal to make sure that choice didn't run out by the time flight attendants made it to my suite.

The seat is rather firm in the bed position, which is a commonality of beds in Japan. They also have a sliding door, which the earlier version of the airline’s Business Class seats do not have, as well as electronic shades for the window shades that operate with the touch of a button.

The seat, at 38 inches wide, is more like a bench. This is great during waking hours because there was ample room to set down a laptop or other work for a moment. While resting, the Em excesso room felt more like sleeping in a real bed.

It's especially lovely before traffic starts to pick up in the early afternoon, when passengers flood in ahead of many departures for Europe.

I was able to watch a full movie in the time the meal service took. Given the length of the flight, it didn't exactly cut into my sleep time, though it could be a nuisance to those looking to fall asleep not long after take-off. Overall, throughout the course of the flight, service was friendly but reserved.

The rest of the dinner service seemed to drag on. That's not a big issue on these longer, early evening departures heading for Tokyo, but could be an issue on the shorter flights back home to the states. Eventually, it was time for the main event: The Japanese meal.

Business class fare includes complimentary alcohol. There is a curated wine selection and top-shelf alcohol choices like Johnnie Walker Blue Label and Bombay Sapphire, and Japanese options like beer and sake. The standard selection of non-alcoholic beverages is also available, including non-alcoholic beer.

The first 200 customers on line for the opening will get gift bags with product samples and coupons, the supermarket says.
